Join the Lions for a delicious dinner and then do a variety of service projects that address the Lions’ global causes:
DIABETES
Take an At-Risk for Diabetes brochure with you to share with your family and friends.
DIABETES AND HUNGER
Bring non-perishable food that is healthy for low-income people with diabetes: brown rice, whole-grain pasta, quinoa, millet, canned salmon, sardines, albacore (white) tuna in water, herring, no-salt kidney beans, no-salt pinto beans, no-salt black beans, walnuts, pecans, macadamia nuts, almonds, mandarin oranges in water, canned sweet potatoes, extra-virgin olive oil, and chia seeds.
ENVIRONMENT/GLOBAL HEALTH
Make shoe kits for children from blue jeans who have been treated for jiggers in Africa. The shoe kits will be made into shoes by seamstresses and cobblers in Uganda.
HUNGER
Create “Thinking of You” meal kits for five Lions who are homebound and haven’t been able to attend a meeting in a while. Lions will sign a card and assemble boxes/baskets with non-perishable items to make meal. Custom, hand-sewn placemats will be included with each box/basket.
PEDIATRIC CANCER
Bring your pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.
Make a fleece-tied blanket for the Ronald McDonald House or Children’s Minnesota.
HEALTH AND YOUTH EDUCATION
Assemble kits for girls in third-world countries so they can go to school even when they have their period and receive the same education as boys. The kits will be donated to Global Health Ministries. Lions will:
- Cut and put grosgrain ribbons in the bags for closing them.
- Fold pads and put three of them in the handmade fabric bags.
- Put a gallon ziplock bag and soap in the fabric bag so the pads can be washed.
VISION
Put bookplates in large-print books for the library.
