Designated Funds

Funding Priorities

The Scandia-Marine Lions Foundation (SMLF) has four funds: Education, Veterans Support, Families-in-Need, and Unrestricted. Donors can direct their contributions to the fund(s) of their choice. Any undesignated contributions to the SMLF are applied to the Unrestricted Fund.

We welcome and encourage organizations and individuals to apply if the request falls within the foundation’s funding priorities. Requests should be made to the Scandia-Marine Lions Club first using the Request for Contribution form by clicking on the About tab on the Scandia-Marine Lions Club’s website home page and then clicking on the Giving Back section. There is a Request for Contribution form there. The Contributions Review Committee, board, and club will review and vote on requests. Projects deemed to be better funded by the Foundation will be forwarded to the Foundation for consideration.

The Foundation does not make grants for operating or program deficits; mortgages; partisan political purposes; tickets to charitable events or dinners; or to sponsor special events or fundraisers.

Education Fund

This fund awards college scholarships to local graduating high school seniors in public, charter, and home schools.

Veterans Support Fund

This fund assists local veterans and their families with qualified unmet needs. The SMLF works in conjunction with the Veterans Program at Century College and Washington County Veterans Services Department.

Families-in-Need Fund

This fund is designated for families in the community who are experiencing financial challenges as observed by members of the SMLF and/or Scandia-Marine Lions Club. Although these contributions generally are made during December, they can be awarded throughout the year.

Unrestricted Fund

The SMLF is part of Lions Clubs International; and, as such, funds projects that fall under the priorities and goals of LCI: diabetes, environment, hunger relief, pediatric cancer, and vision. This fund also is used to meet various community needs. Projects must demonstrate the potential to enhance the overall local quality of life.

Any questions about the Foundation should be directed to the SMLF President, Cheryl Reinitz, at smlionsfoundation@gmail.com.
